Functional Limitations

Hand Use

Potential problems:  Weak hands, clumsy hands

Examples:  Difficulty pressing the buttons on a standard mouse.  Accidentally hits the wrong keys on a keyboard.

Reaching/Lifting

Potential problems:  Weak, shaky or inflexible arms

Examples:  Difficulty moving a standard mouse or reaching a mouse on a computer table.

Hearing

Potential problems: Poor hearing or deafness

Examples:  Unable to hear sound effects in various early learning software programs.

Speech

Potential problems:  Unable to say words.

Examples:  Limited ability to speak generally does not affect a person's ability to use a computer.

Memory/Organization

Potential problems:  Poor memory, confusion

Examples:  Difficulty understanding how to move between activities in a software program. Confused by busy or complicated graphics.  Inability to use a drag lock function with a traditional mouse.

Vision

Potential problems:  Poor vision or blindness

Examples:  Difficulty identifying small images in software programs.  Difficulty seeing the letters and numbers on a keyboard.

Mobility/Balance

Potential problems:  Unsteady or unable to walk or stand.

Examples:  Limited ability to walk or stand.
